6 June-July 2004 The CRS CommPoster
PUBLICATIONS
Recognizing the need to serve you better by coordinating all our publications, the Publications Committee has now been reinstated. At this time the Chairperson is Ethel Freeman and the members are Doreen Stanton, Editor of The Annual, Janet McKinlay, Editor of The Rosarian, Christine Moore, assistant on The Rosarian, and Marie Farnady, interim Editor of The CommPoster.
The Publications Committee has discussed at length the scope of each of the publications, possible overlap in their content and a publication schedule that would keep us in constant contact with you. We looked at all possibilities, including eliminating each of the various publications. In the end, we brought two motions to the Board of Directors; one regarding the publishing schedule and one outlining the scope of each publication.
The Board of Directors passed the following schedule for our publications:
This gives us the Annual, two Rosarians and five CommPosters a year and lets us communicate with you every other month.
The Board also approved the following content guidelines for our three publications:
1. The Annual
a. Clearing House
b. CRS “official” yearly information
i. Patrons
ii. Past Presidents
iii. Directors and Regional Directors
iv. Rose Consultants and rose Judges
v. Demonstration Gardens
vi. Minutes of the Annual Meeting
vii. National Rose Show results
viii. President’s message.
c. In November or December the Editor will announce to the Board and to the members at large (through the CommPoster) one or two major themes for articles for the next Annual. Any articles submitted or solicited on those themes will go to the Annual that year.
d. Very long and very technical articles should also go into the Annual, but if possible they should fit the year’s themes.
2. The Rosarian
a. Regular Columns such as President’s Message, Word from the Editor, Website Ramblings
b. Membership form and information
c. Reinforce any coming events that were announced in the CommPoster
d. Book reviews
e. Feature articles with a lot of photos
f. Spring edition to include a summary of the Annual General Meeting, spring care, organic approach, feature on one of the Demonstration gardens, etc.
g. Winter edition to include affiliated societies’ rose show results (major awards only) and a look back at the past season
5. The CommPoster (will be available on our website www.canadianrosesociety.org for downloading and for web browsing)
a. Each issue should be 4 to 8 pages including a membership form
b. Upcoming events
c. In memoriam notices
d. Any other notices from the Board to the membership
e. Upcoming rose care for different regions
f. Short feature on a different rosarian and/or garden.
g. Announcements of any important discoveries or events in the rose world at large
Our publications are a work in progress and 2004 will be a transition year for us. We will appreciate your input and comments as we continually try to improve.
