An Index For The CRS Annual 1955-2004

For fifty years, the Canadian Rose Society has been publishing its Annual containing educational articles, lists of roses suitable in Canada, the “Clearing House” (a list of rose cultivars with accompanying evaluations by rosarians across Canada) and other information.

Whether you have subscribed to the Annual for a short or long period of time, you can now easily find any item in any Annual by article title, author, subject, cultivar etc.  All photographs are also indexed

The complete index is available free by downloading it from the CRS website.  The file is only about 300K in size so even dial-up connections can receive it in short order.   You may also order the index in two electronic formats:  3 ½” floppy disk or CDRom.  To obtain either of these formats, send a request with $5 (payable to the Canadian Rose Society) to The Secretary, P.O. Box 41262, 4141 Dixie Road, Mississauga, Ontario, L4W 5C9.  The downloadable version is on our website at www.canadianrosesociety.org

This is an invaluable tool to anyone wishing to easily access the wealth of information contained in the Annual over the years!  Please avail yourself of this opportunity.

The index was labouriously prepared by Arnold Pittao, CRS Director, from Lloydminster, AB.

If you are interested, there is another file available for downloading on the website listing all the Officers and Directors of the Canadian Rose Society from 1955 to 2004.

CRS 2004 Photography Contest

During last spring’s annual general meeting in Toronto, Ontario, the announcement of the 2004’s photography contest was met with great excitement and anticipation.  At the conclusion of the competition, there were 54 prints entered in 3 adult categories from 4 provinces and the United States.  What quickly became evident from the first entry’s arrival was the difficulty that the judges were going to face in finding a winner from each class.   The judging process consisted of each photo being displayed in its class blind (the name from each entry was hidden during judging).    Each print was judged for the following:  clarity of the photo, composition and content.   This contest was a great opportunity for new and established members to demonstrate not only his or her love of roses, but an eye for detail in creating a winning photograph.  For the CRS, we have a wonderful display of great photographs that I know our members across the country will enjoy looking at.  Congratulations to all the members who entered.  Please find below a list of the winning entries as well as honourable mentions.  Remember that the winning entries didn’t necessarily use “perfect” blooms, rather the perfect rose(s) to interpret its class.
